A fossil-free society: what role can the industrial symbiosis play?

  • This event has passed.

October 18 2019,

2019 Jernkontoret, Kungsträdgårdsgatan 10, Stockholm (Sweden)

Climate change is a global problem. National, regional and global efforts are required in order to tackle this problem economic-, environment- and energy-effectively.

This event has been organized by SWERIM AB and was held at Jernkontoret in Stockholm. Around 50 participants from various industries, research institutes, universities, SMEs and authorities attended the workshop. The seminar & workshop program consisted of presentations from different institutes and companies, sharing their views and perspectives on how we can contribute to a fossil-free society.

Within this frame, an overview on potential “approaches for industrial symbiosis in different CO2 mitigation pathways” within the steel industry was presented by examples from the LowCarbonFuture project (Gerald Stubbe, VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut, Duesseldorf, Germany).
Finally, a panel discussion was held on cross-industry and cross-country cooperation to achieve the fossil free society in most effective ways.

For LowCarbonFuture, a Stakeholder Survey Questionnaire was circulated during the seminar (also by e-mail), intended to receive feedback from the participants about their assessment concerning required Industrial symbiosis in connection with CO2 mitigation at iron and steelmaking. The questionnaires have been evaluated afterwards in order to identify main aspects to consider within the scope of the LowCarbonFuture project.
